I'm thinking to buy Winnie the Pooh quilt material, then apply to a standard quilt pattern that features large area of the feature fabric.

If you can't find a quilt design or not one that you like, you can use coloring books to trace pictures and applique ( not sure about copyright laws on this, but might be alright since you are not selling it for profit) or use winnie the pooh prints and a pieced block design. Also as someone else suggested there are panels out there with a large design and you can add coordinating borders which would make it quick and easy.

I haven't checked in for a long time, and hope I am permitted to tell you about this quilt show. If anyone will be in the Pittsburgh area the first weekend of August, I would like to invite you to attend this show presented by Quilt Company East, a quilters' guild in the east suburbs. On display for the first time in 20 years is the 79' x 8' "Pittsburgh Friendship Quilt" which features more than 32,000 2" squares signed by four U. S. Presidents and first ladies, local and national political figures & celebrities, the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates team members, and visitors to The Buhl Science Center during the late 1980's. Marilyn Doheny is the featured quilt instructor and lecturer, offering three classes and a lecture. There are several other classes to choose from, 15 merchant booths and more than 200 quilts on display. It's our very own 3-day quilt party!www.qulitcoeast.org

Needle size and brand preference is going to vary quilter to quilter. I gave up on those gnats eyebrow needles years ago as I can break them taking them out of the package. I have two favorites, both size 9. John James Quilting and Richard Hemming Betweens. Both are sharp, and sturdy enough to stand up to serious quilting action.

I hope this site allows those of us that want to try machine quilting. I have done little projects by hand and machine but have recently purchased a HQ frame. This is not the new model. I need someone who can tell me the width of this set-up. I plan to set it on 2 4ft. tables for now and will expand if I figure out where to put it. How much room do I need at the ends for easier mobility. I obviously have not seen the frame yet as I purchased it on-line. Any info and encouragement is appreciated.

My suggestion to you is to visit the HQ website or call their customer service number and ask for a dealer near you. There are many dealers who are quilt shops and are very willing to help someone who is beginning, or like you, purchased a older model. I have done this myself with different sewing machines and long arm/mid arm. Most are very accomodating. They may charge you a slight fee, but in the end, it will be worth it! Good Luck. Kari

I am going to add photos to a quilt and have never done this. What is the best fabric to print to? Kinkos is going to do the printing for me. Any suggestions?

You must be really careful which product you use. Most of them are color-fast ONLY if washed in cold water with no detergent. The onl.y brand I use is Printed Treasures - expensive but worth the effort. Also, you MUST use an inkjet printer - laser will not work, so be careful what Kinko's will use. PT has a website you can order from rather than try to find them in an LQS. Candace
