- We Inspire Creativity -

Greenbaum’s Quilted Forest is a third generation family business that has evolved over time. It started as a dry good’s store, Greenbaum’s Dept. Store, in 1900; became a fabric store; Greenbaum’s Fine Fabrics, in 1946; and finally a quilt shop, Greenbaum’s Quilted Forest, in 1988. The shop is in a beautiful historic structure that was built in 1889, and is located in the heart of the downtown historic district in Salem, Oregon.

We were also just voted one of the 20 Best Quilt Shops in the United States and Canada by American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. Details here.

The philosophy of Sylvia Dorney, the current owner and granddaughter of founder Izzy Greenbaum, is to continue the family tradition of providing excellent customer service and quality merchandise. To this end Better Homes and Gardens’ Quilt Sampler magazine recognized the shop as a “Top Ten Quilt Shop” in 2003. The shop is known regionally for its innovative classes, and showcasing the newest products and fabrics that compliment its trend-setting personality.

QUILTOPIA: A WEEKEND OF QUILTING EVENTS
Quiltopia ia an annual quilt festival that will inspire you to learn the joys of using textiles in a traditional and/or contemporary art form. It will take place October 2-4, 2009 at several venues in Salem.
Greenbaum’s Quilted Forest , named one of the top 20 quilt shops in the U.S. and Canada by American Patchwork and Quilting, and the Help Autism Now Society (HANS)are the leading forces in creating this festival. It started as The Quilted Cottage Tour seven years ago, which is a major fundraiser for HANS. The Event has been so successful that the organizers decided to create a festival that would incorporate other quilting related activities. Lina Lee, co-founder and Executive direstor of HANS says, " I could never imagine how important the Cottage Tour has been in helping raise funds and heightening the awareness of Autism in our community. we are excited abour being an integral part of this festival and having an opportunity to touch more people.

The three-day festival includes a variety of activities, whichi includes the Quilted Forest Quilt Show at the Mill. This event will educate the novice to the experienced quilter on the role quilting has played in our heritage and the enrichment of our lives. Sylvia Dorney, President of Greenbaum’s Quilted Forest, envisions the festival becoming a major attrctin for the Salem area. "I believe it can have orer time an economic impact similar to the Sister’s Quilt show and at the same time showcase the many historical treasures we have in Salem"
