The Fabric Chest
Glen Burnie
The Fabric Chest is located in Glen Burnie, MD. And it is got to be one of the nicest "people" shops that I have been in. It's not an overly large shop, but it carries a pretty wide selection of fabrics, patterns, threads and my favorite thing of all "Bernina Sewing Machines". Yes, there are many shops that I have traveled to that have the same things and machines. And there are many that really have the extremely laid out and eye catching shelves and walls. Beautiful to come in and spend time, pick out fabrics, etc.and they all have great sales support, no question.

But the Fabric Chest, which started out as a general fabric shop for all types of materials and was sold to someone else, who just jumped right in with very few changes. The personnel for the most part, she kept and these women, have to be the most conscientious I have met. And it doesn't matter whether they are familiar with quilting or not.. those that do have the quilting background, continue to motivate and learn. Those who were with the shop originally and were seamstress, still know their fabrics and they have made sure that they have their hands on each and every machine in there. The Owner, Shirley, will go any length to take care of her customers be it for a really easy question or a rather difficult one. She is just as much hands on as the rest of her staff. She has one of the most talented dress makers you can fine and who loves her machines ,to teach all the new soft ware. And she takes learning this new stuff all the way to the top and if (I) a question has to asked more then once, then she takes time to make sure that she is giving the right information and when you leave one of her classes, you will know a heck of lot more then you would have taught you could learn.

She has also bought in some of the best teachers for holding classes from figuring out where the thread goes, to Heirloom Embroidery. There are several other shops in Maryland, and I could just name all of them. But for changing over from one type of business to another just over night, making the customers the most important people, and turn the shop into a wonderfully delightful place to find your fabrics. And I would hope that if you are in the area, you stop and say hello, and then reach for more fabric
