I have an antique wooden drying rack that I discoverd is quite handy for displaying my cut out pieces for the quilt I am working on. Larger pieces work the best like binding etc. I have a picture if I can figure out how to add it to this tip.

Took FOREVER to figure it out, but when I bought the sashing, it all fell into place, lol !! Have over 10 squares left over & didn't buy enough material for the sashing to include the border. Hope I can match it !!

Any one interested in a block exchange? I led one several years ago and enjoyed meeting new quilters as well as receiving some great quilt blocks. If any interest, I will be happy to host.

I used crayons on unwashed canvas, ironed over it using paper towels then put Jeans thread in my machine and free motioned all over it. Gosh was it fun. Did not have to use a stabilizer at all. Just wanted to share my idea while the book is still new in my head.

I'm thinking to buy Winnie the Pooh quilt material, then apply to a standard quilt pattern that features large area of the feature fabric.

I am relatively new at this also. I used to sew years ago, but am not good enough to make clothes. I can sew a straight line so I decided to make quilts. I am having a ball. I started by finding free patterns on the internet. I also subscribed to a couple of quilting newsletters. But a lot of my learning has been from making the mistakes. There is a wonderful woman at my local JoAnn Fabrics that has helped me also. Good luck and happy sewing

If you can't find a quilt design or not one that you like, you can use coloring books to trace pictures and applique ( not sure about copyright laws on this, but might be alright since you are not selling it for profit) or use winnie the pooh prints and a pieced block design. Also as someone else suggested there are panels out there with a large design and you can add coordinating borders which would make it quick and easy.

Hey everyone, I don't know what the right way is to add my shop to the Missouri quilt shops directory. I saw that it was a wiki, but when I tried to edit it it just looked goofy. What's the right way to get added there?

RE: Open a quilt shop
By: ,
Mar 16 2009, 10:15 AM EDT
first step is all the business plan stuff. How big is your local market, will there be more people than just your friends who will shop from you, how is business for the other quilt shops in the area, are they receive a lot of traffic, that kind of stuff. Once you've done your market research you can invest with a bit more confidence in opening a shop.
Good luck though, its very exciting!

Hello everyone,I am dreamq.I have sewn all of my life and made several baby quilt gifts on a straight needle machine. I also made a bed size Americana quilt for my husband who is a retired military man.I had each of his duty stations embroidered on alternating blocks with the waving American flag pattern. He absolutely loved it. It was very cumbersome and difficult to handle due to the thickness of batting that I used. A trick I will learn in time I'm sure.My husband is building my website currently.Look for Painted Sky Botique Painted sky because I paint landscapes which consists of at least 25 percent sky on each one
